Day 1 Johannesburg, Mokala NP

We depart Johannesburg enroute to the breathtaking Mokala National Park which spans over 26,000 hectares, the reserve offers a diverse landscape of rolling hills, savannah and grasslands. Renowned for its rich biodiversity, Mokala is home to an array of iconic African wildlife, including black rhino, roan antelope, and endangered Cape buffalo.

Day 2 Kimberly

We start the day with a game drive in Mokala National Park followed by a visit to The Big Hole in Kimberley which stands as a remarkable testament to the city's diamond mining history. Dug by hand over a century ago, this colossal excavation bears testament to the diamond rush. 

 

Day 3 Magersfontein

We start the day with a game drive in Mokala National Park followed by a visit to the Magersfontein battlefield which holds significant historical importance as the site of a pivotal battle in 1899 during the Anglo-Boer War in South Africa. Today, the Magersfontein battlefield is a solemn memorial and heritage site, where visitors can explore the trenches, view historical artefacts, and gain insights into the devastating consequences of war. 

 

Day 4 Mokala NP, Loxton

After breakfast we transit through the picturesque landscapes of the Karoo region to Loxton- a quaint village brimming with charm and history. Loxton exudes a sense of intimacy, and the village is characterised by its traditional Karoo-style architecture. 

 

Day 5 Loxton

During the morning we take a drive to Kasteel Boerdery to view the Castle in Loxton. It is a delightful and unexpected gem. Built by Jan Hugo over the span of 15 years, it is a whimsical structure adorned with unique sculptures, colourful mosaics, and imaginative artwork. Our afternoon visit is to the Drylands Conservation Project. Here you will be introduced to the endangered Riverine Rabbit that calls the Karoo region its home.

Loxton Campsite

Day 6 Loxton

Our excursion today is to the Erasmuskraal farm. It is a tranquil and picturesque farmstead located outside of Loxton, South Africa. After a 3km walk we will encounter a troupe of 10 life sized cement dancers made by the late Marcella De Boom in 1999. We will spend the afternoon exploring the village, admiring the cypress, pepper, pear and beefwood trees, flood irrigation channels, Karoo styled homes and grand Dutch Reformed Church. We will visit the Annelise Vorster Meyer art gallery for some Karoo artistic inspiration.

 

Day 7 Loxton, Karoo NP

We depart Loxton enroute to the exquisite  Karoo National Park. It is a captivating sanctuary encompassing over 75 000 hectares, this expansive park showcases the stark beauty of the semi-desert landscape. The park is a haven for wildlife, with sightings of majestic species such as the black rhino, Cape mountain zebra, meerkats and Klipspringer.

Day 8 Beaufort West

After a game drive and breakfast we travel to Beaufort West - a charming town steeped in history and nestled in the heart of the Karoo region. Serving as the gateway to the Great Karoo, Beaufort West holds a special place in the country's heritage. The town boasts beautiful Cape Dutch architecture, wide streets, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. We will explore its rich past through visits to the Beaufort West Museum Complex, which showcases the history of the town and its people. 

 

Day 9 Karoo NP

Today we delight in an early morning walk of the 5km Bossie Trail. After brunch we visit the Fossil trail and the Interpretive centre. Later in the afternoon we will depart on our final game drive of this adventure.

 

Day 10 Karoo NP to Bloemfontein

After breakfast we start our return to Gauteng and sleepover outside Bloemfontein.

 

Day 11 Bloemfontein to Gauteng

After a hearty breakfast we start our return to Gauteng
