Karoo Landscape

Day 1  | Johannesburg, Mokala NP

We depart Johannesburg enroute to the breathtaking Mokala National Park which spans over 26,000 hectares, the reserve offers a diverse landscape of rolling hills, savannah and grasslands. Renowned for its rich biodiversity, Mokala is home to an array of iconic African wildlife, including black rhino, roan antelope, and endangered Cape buffalo. 

Day 2 | Mokala NP

We start the day with a game drive in Mokala National Park followed by a visit to The Big Hole in Kimberley which stands as a remarkable testament to the city's diamond mining history. Dug by hand over a century ago, this colossal excavation bears testament to the diamond rush. 

 

Day 3 | Mokala NP

We start the day with a game drive in Mokala National Park followed by a visit to the Magersfontein battlefield which holds significant historical importance as the site of a pivotal battle in 1899 during the Anglo-Boer War in South Africa. Today, the Magersfontein battlefield is a solemn memorial and heritage site, where visitors can explore the trenches, view historical artefacts, and gain insights into the devastating consequences of war. 

 

Day 4 | Mokala NP, Camdeboo NP

We start the day with a hearty breakfast before setting off to the beautiful Camdeboo National Park renowned for its iconic Valley of Desolation, where we will be spending the next few nights. 

 

Day 5 | Camdeboo NP

We start the day in Camdeboo National park with an excursion to the Valley of Desolation. After brunch we depart for Nieu Bethesda where we visit the Owl House for a unique artistic experience. Created by Helen Martins, this extraordinary sculpture garden showcases her creative vision and eccentricity. The house is adorned with a myriad of vibrant mosaics, statues, and glass creations, portraying an otherworldly atmosphere. It is a testament to Martins' solitary life and artistic expression

Day 6 | Camdeboo NP

We start the day with a game drive in Camdeboo National park taking in the breathtaking panoramic views and searching for a diverse array of wildlife, including Cape Mountain Zebra. After brunch we depart for Graaff-Reinet to visit the Reinet House Museum, housed in a beautifully restored Dutch Reformed Church parsonage. The Museum showcases period furnishings, artefacts, and exhibits, providing insight into the town's past. A guided 1 and a half hour walk covers the most interesting highlights of the town including some of the over 200 national monuments that Graaff-Reinet boasts. 

 

Day 7 | Camdeboo NP, Mountain Zebra NP

We start the day with a hearty breakfast before setting off for the picturesque Mountain Zebra National Park where we will be spending the next few nights. The national park was proclaimed for the purpose of providing a reserve for the endangered Cape mountain zebra.

Day 8 | Mountain Zebra NP

We start the day with a game drive in Mountain Zebra National Park before setting off for a visit to the Cradock Four Memorial, which stands as a poignant tribute to the brave individuals who fought against apartheid in South Africa. We then visit the Fish River Museum, housed in a charming Victorian-style building, showcasing a diverse collection of photographs and exhibits that depict the town's past. 

 

Day 9 | Mountain Zebra NP

We start the day with a game drive in Mountain Zebra National Park before setting off for a visit to the Schreiner House Museum, offering an opportunity to explore the legacy of acclaimed author Olive Schreiner. A guided walk takes visitors through significant sites in Cradock associated with Schreiner's life.

 

Day 10 | Mountain Zebra NP, Bloemfontein

Enjoy a hearty breakfast before departing for our overnight stop in Bloemfontein. 

 

Day 11 | Bloemfontein, Gauteng 

Enjoy a hearty breakfast before departing home to Gauteng.
